About the Chief Guide and the Tour Designer

Hi! I’m Dougall Patchett.

I’m very excited and proud to be able to offer this unique service to those that would like to see the beautiful and wild South Island of New Zealand how it should be seen.

I’ve been an active, outdoors person all my life, working as a shepherd, gold miner, builder and as a tourist bus driver/guide. I love the outdoors. I love its flora and fauna, its excitement, its opportunities and its therapeutic effects on the mind. I also enjoy sharing these things with others.

In the past, I’ve organised trips for sailing, skiing and tramping in this fair country. I’m a seasoned international traveller, having travelled extensively throughout Europe and the U S A, and sailed around the Solomon and Tongan Islands by yacht . So I know what a tourist’s expectations and needs are.

I’m passionate about New Zealand and very proud to be a Kiwi. Having spent the majority of my life in the South Island I know this beautiful area of the country.

I have a passion for nature and feel we should Toitu te whenua (meaning, to leave the land undisturbed), whilst respecting the culture and heritage of those who live there as we travel.

My hobbies include swimming, diving, sailing, tramping, fishing and music.
